Supervisor Andrea Bailey’s Press Release on the Fire & Rescue Station 3 in the Potomac District
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Board action advances plan to modernize a 65-year-old station and expand emergency response capacity for current and future residents
WOODBRIDGE, Va. — January 15, 2026 — Today, the Prince William Board of County Supervisors authorized the execution of an agreement to purchase two parcels at 18260 and 18270 Richmond Highway in Dumfries—approximately 4.35 acres—to serve as the future location of replacement Fire and Rescue Station 3 in the Potomac District. The Board’s action supports the County’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan goals by ensuring an appropriate number of facilities and response units to meet established Level of Service standards.
“This is a public safety investment rooted in a simple promise: when our residents call for help, help must arrive—quickly, reliably, and with the capacity to meet the moment,” said Supervisor Andrea Bailey, Potomac District. “Station 3 has served our community for decades, and now it’s our responsibility to serve the next generation by replacing an aging facility with one that matches the needs of today—and the growth of tomorrow.”
Following a request from the Fire and Rescue System for a replacement site near Station 3, the Department of Facilities and Fleet Management—Property Management Division conducted a search in the Potomac District and identified two parcels that satisfy operational and location needs. The County negotiated a purchase agreement with Quantico Trading LLC and Quantico Property LLC for $3,200,000.
The Board also approved funding to support the property purchase, feasibility study, and related settlement costs—totaling $3,350,000—to advance planning and development of a new station that will expand services and operational capacity in the Potomac District.
“As Potomac District continues to grow, our emergency response infrastructure must grow with it,” Bailey added. “This decision strengthens our readiness, supports our firefighters and EMS personnel, and reinforces the County’s commitment to safe, secure neighborhoods.”
Funding and Authorization
As part of the resolution, the Board:
• Authorized the transfer and appropriation of $2,142,072 from Fire and Rescue general use proffers and $1,207,928 from fire levy fund balance to fund the acquisition.
• Authorized the Director of Facilities and Fleet Management, or designee, to execute the agreement and related documents as approved by the County Attorney’s Office.
Next Steps
County staff will proceed with due diligence activities, including feasibility and planning work, to advance the Station 3 replacement project and ensure the new facility is designed to meet community needs, improve operational capacity, and support effective emergency response.
